Puzzle #2: Chess Problem

In honor of the ongoing World Chess Championship, I'm posting a bonus mini-puzzle (pdf, puz, pdf solution). The finished crossword will lead you to a chess problem (written by F. Hilly, 1855): white to play, mate in three.

UPDATE: There is formatting in the pdf which isn't supported by the puz format, so if you solve the puz, please take a look at the pdf as well. (The original pdf didn't have the formatting either since it was converted from the puz, but I've uploaded a new version.)

Enjoy, and please share!

  1. Certainly in Across Light you can ring letters. Just type "*" on them.
